Traveling with Kids!

Oh man, traveling with kids! It can be hard, daunting, tiring, but I always feel like it’s so worth it in the end. I really am my absolute happiest when I am traveling with my family. They are my favorite life memories and I love exploring new, and familiar places together.

Although we are no experts, after traveling here and there with the kids, we definitely have some tricks up our sleeves! Here is a list of our traveling must-haves below!

Plane

Baby Bjorn – after going through security, I immediately put on my Baby Bjorn and usually wear it until we get on the plane. I love that I can be hands-free and keep the baby ccontained until we get on the train, I personally use the Baby Bjorn up until they start walking. Then I’ll put them in the stroller.
Zoe Stroller – the best umbrella stroller! Its soo light, great quality and folds up so slim. Use OLIVIABETH+ZOE to get a disocunt when you buy your stroller.
Honest Wipes – I LOVE theses wipes. They are perfect for wiping down pretty much anything besides a baby’s bum!
GoBe Snack Spinner – this snack spinner helps keeps the kids entertained and is also so great for their motor skills.
Honest Hand Sanitizer – thanks 2020 for reminding us we should never travel without hand sanitizer again. This kind is our fafvorite.
Coloring books (preferably the mess free) these are great because they can’t draw on their clothes or anything.
iPad – I heard somewhere once that you should give your kids toys/things on the plane they hardly ever get at home and that is 100% the iPad for us. She will mostly just color on it. The app we have is called “Drawing for kids” and she just colors, colors, colors! Depending on the flight time she’ll definitely watch a show too.
Kids suitcase – I think it’s great for kids to get used to traveling with their own luggage and being responsible for their own belongings.
WaterWow – if you haven’t used these yet, they’re awesome. You just add some water to the marker and it colors the pages. I love these for church too!
Gathre changing mat – I refuse to walk into any publicc restroomm without his lol. It also helps in the back of the car on road trips too for diaper changes.
Headphones – another MUST HAVE are headphones for the kids. When we are driving in the car, we will play Disney Stories on Spotify in her hearphones and she stays silent for hours haha!
Wonder Spinner – this toy is a must for cars, planes and restaurants. It sticks to the table (or window of the plane) and they just sit and spin spin spin.
Kids Laptop – both kids love this toy!
Suckers – suckers help with entertainment AND their ears with altitude and pressure etc.
Car Seat/Stroller Covers – one thing I know for sure is that airlines do NOT care about your stuff haha. I swear everytime our car seats/strollers come back to us we are shocked at how beat up our things are if we don’t put a cover on them. We use this lovely RED TRAVEL BAG for our Zoe stroller! We usually use the stroller all throughout the airport and hurry and put this on at the gate before we board and gate check it.
Sleep Drops – when in need, travel with some sleeper drops in case things get desparate. We love our Wink Naturals ones and even have a disount code (utahgrubs). And if you have a hard time sleeping on vacations, try the adult ones! I am so grateful for them!
Phone Soap! Bringing the PhoneSoap go gives me the best peace of mind knowing that our devices are sanitized and clean after traveling through the airports etc. Use OLIVIABETH for a discount always!

Car

A lot of the things above will apply to the car too (hi, earphones!) but here are a couple more!

Honest Wipes – same as above. These wipes are the best to clean up any sticky mess.
Cosco Car Seat – if you’re traveling with car seats, these ones are great, cheap and light! The price point is a lot cheaper than our other ones so we don’t mind if these ones get damaged at all. Once again, the airlines don’t care about your things 🤪
Fan for kids – this fan can wrap around your stroller, car seat and more. Nice to fan them off if it’s ever hot.

Sleep

Wyze camera – we love our Wyze cameras at home and when we are traveling. However, if you are staying somehwere with an open network, you will need to use a diffferent monitor. This Motorola Monitor is another great one.
Lovey/blanket – we love traveling withh our kids blankets so they get a sense of home and comfort. Okay FINE I will be honest, I travel with one of their always too. With or without them!
Slumberpod – these are a MUST MUST MUST! Use OLIVIABETH for a discount!
Hatch Rest+ – there is a big difference in the Rest and the Rest+. The Rest+ can work without being plugged in! We will use it in the car as a sound machine if we have a screaming baby that just won’t sleep!
Baby Bjorn Travel Crib – this travel crib is pricey but it is SO light, so slim and just the best we’ve used. Our daughter still sleeps in and she’s 3.5!

Will went back to the office on Monday (more on all of us this later…) so I was able to have it be just me and the kids for the majority of the week and oh man… I just loved it so much. In the Teton Backcountry With Backcountry

While in the Tetons this past week, we were able to get lots of hiking in and I loved using some of my near gear/apparel from Backcountry! If you haven’t heard of Backcountry before, it is an online storefront that has thousands of outdoor products with ‘Gearheads’ online ready to help you make the right decision if you’re ever lost or wondering what products would be best.

Funny story – I ordered the grey color of this Beyond Yoga Tank from Backcountry for our trip and after trying it on once, I hurried and went on and ordered another color because I was that obsessed! It is the softest material I’ve ever had in a tank and the biker shorts were just as good too. I LOVE that the tank has a built-in shelf bra! I promise you’ll be hooked on this tank. I have it in the Black/White (it’s more of a grey) and the Electric Pink.

I have personally ordered on Backcountry many times in the past and love how seamless the ordering process is and love that since they’re local, I can even go pick up my items if needed! But since they have a warehouse locally in SLC, I usually get all of my items to my house in 1-2 days! It’s amazing.

I have seen this OnCloud brand for a while now and decided to try out these trail running shoes and they were incredible. They really do feel like you are running On Clouds! Also, if you love to hike or trail run and haven’t looked into buying shoes specifically geared towards those forms of exercise, you need to! They really do make all the difference out on the trails.

I tend to carry a lot of things when I go hiking and trail running and this Patagonia Sling Bag has the perfect amount of storage space and even fits my big DSLR camera! I love being hands-free and putting my phone, keys, earphones, etc. right in the bag. Will loved wearing it around too!

If you’re a Stanley cup lover, you NEED to try THIS ONE with the flip-top! I love how the lid prevents it from spilling out and that you can hold it up top rather on the side. Just trust me on this one! You’ll love it. I’ll never travel without it again.

I am not sure it gets any cuter than kids in cute mini camping chairs! Another funny story – I ordered the pink chair for our daughter for our trip to Jackson and when it arrived in the mail, we set it up in the living room and our son couldn’t stop sitting in it and smiling so big! So, once again, I went back to the Backcountry website and ordered us a blue one and we picked it up on our way out of town. They are just good quality and the price point was great too! He is OBSESSED.

However, he may not be so obsessed with hiking haha! We went on a beautiful hike from String Lake to Leigh Lake and our son snoozed the entire time. Oh well, at least his hiking backpack is comfortable. There is even a sunshade you can pull out the back to cover and protect your kids from the sun!

I will say… I HIGHLY suggest returning home from a trip on a Wednesday.. because Thursday feels like Monday and then the next day is Friday and it’s the weekend again!

My work actually just implemented a new summer “shut down” week where we aren’t allowed to work the entire week after the 4th of July and let’s just say I am ENJOYING IT. I am running around like a crazy person getting so much done still but at least it’s nice to not have my job to worry about on top of it!

Cookbook Club Details

About a year ago, I received (the best) direct message from a girl on Instagram who I had only met briefly once in real life. She messaged me and some other girls on Instagram asking if we wanted to do a cookbook club together! We all said yes (of course!) and we had our first one the following month.

There are obviously a lot of different ways to go about doing a Cookbook Club, but I thought I’d give some details on how we do ours!

We have 12 girls in the group and each trade-off hosting cookbook club that month. We generally like to do the first Thursday of the month but obviously know that life can get in the way and sometimes it changes. Not everyone can come every single month and that’s okay too.

Whoever is in charge of hosting gets to choose which cookbook/blog we do! Once that is decided, we have a shared Google Sheet where we all add what we’re bringing with a link to the recipe if you can find it online. If it’s in the physical cookbook, we will just text in a picture of it and the host will print out little recipe cards we can keep in our recipe tin in our kitchens.

Another fun thing we’ve done is choose our favorite recipe of our moms and bring our moms to Cookbook Club in May for Mother’s Day, or do our favorite summer dish in June depending on what’s in season, etc. 🍉 So it totally doesn’t have to be a cookbook every single month! Mix it and maybe do your favorite Mexican dish for Cinco de Mayo etc.

New Bedding with Serena & Lily!

Today I am so excited to share with you my new bedding from Serena & Lily! I first visited a Serena & Lily store in Lido Village on my Newport Beach trip four years ago and quickly fell in love with the brand and the products they sell. Everything is so timeless and beautiful and I am also so thrilled with the quality of the products we own from Serena & Lily as well.

Several months ago, I decided I wanted to give our bedroom a little revamp. I wanted new lampshades, we really didn’t love our duvet cover so we just took it off months ago, and our bed had no structure or thoughtfulness to its design.

I was so excited to find the perfect white linen set from Serena & Lily. After MUCH searching and deliberation (no, but really, it took me FOREVER to choose between so many of the great options on their website!), I decided to go with their Cavallo Linen Duvet Cover and Cavallo Linen Shams. I love that their European linen just gets better and better with each wash and also love how low maintenance it is.

We are also now using their Primaloft Duvet Insert inside of our linen cover and we both love how airy and fluffy it is!

I wanted to add two little accent pieces on the bed, so I have the Almonte Quilt at the bottom of the bed and also found this Alba Pillow Cover to put on the bed alongside the white linen pillows. It is technically an outdoor pillow but hey, it does the job flawlessly! I love that we can pull up the quilt if we ever get cold at night but if anything I just love the look of it draped at the bottom of the bed.

Overall, I am beyond thrilled with how our little bedroom transformation turned out. I was really wanting our space to feel open, bright, and comfortable and these pieces from Serena & Lily helped me accomplish all of that and more.
