Photography

Let’s chat about photography! I know I did a post on this a couple of years ago but thought it was time for a little refresh.

I always like to start these posts reminding you that I am NOT a professional by any means but if you can’t tell, I LOVE taking pictures and have learned a lot these past couple of years by shooting on different cameras and taking pictures almost every single day.

Current DSLR

For the past 2 years, I have been shooting with a Canon R6 and have been switching out the lenses but I am currently using a Canon RF 50 mm lens and have been LOVING this combo. Taking Tim Coulson’s photography workshops has really helped me understand my DSLR camera as well as a lot of practice and playing around with the settings. One thing I have been doing lately is playing with the White Balance setting (Kelvin!) and it’s made my pictures so warm and I don’t even need to edit them anymore!

Fujifilm Film Camera

Photography

If you remember, a couple of weeks ago we went to California and I brought my Fujifilm 100v Camera to play with and oh my goodness I loved it! Think of it as an easy way to shoot with film without as much as a learning curve and not having to develop the film etc. The pictures turned out so beautiful and I LOVED the film effect. It already has built-in presets on the camera and you don’t even need to edit or tweak the photos (unless you want to) but I did not edit one of them and loved how every single one turned out.

Disposable Camera

I’ve also really been loving using disposable cameras again! I love the way the photos look and once again, zero editing is required which is so great if you don’t love editing photos! I buy my disposable cameras here and get them developed locally (at Nichol’s Print Lab). They send them digitally as well which so many photo labs have started to do. Just contact some photography businesses in your area and see if they have a digital option while developing disposables.

My Daughter’s Camera

My daughter has been using this camera from Amazon for several years and LOVED it but recently she’s been using a Canon Powershot camera. It was Will’s old camera he took on his church service mission 12 years ago (!!!) and still works great. Here is the same one on Amazon but honestly, I feel like this cheaper option could work great?!

To get the photos off of Penny’s camera, I plug this into my phone.

Kodak Ektar

Back in January, I purchased my first Kodak Ektar camera and I have been having so much fun with it. I have really wanted to get into more film photography but am a little nervous to take the plunge. When someone shared about this camera, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for right now. It is a half-frame film camera. You don’t need a light meter but you will need to get the photos developed. I explain it as almost like a reusable disposable camera if you will. I love the look of the photos! Make sure you use the flash pretty much at all times. It is a cheaper camera.. so just a heads up that they do break but for a $40 price point, it’s a great option if you want your photos to have a film feel. Make sure you also put your film in the fridge if you don’t plan on using it for a while!

How I Edit My Photos

This is where you’ll really know I’m not a professional because I don’t use Lightroom to edit my photos.. I have recently loved learning the settings on my camera to the point where I shoot my photos exactly how I like them (adjusting the warmth etc.) all within the camera so I hardly even edit my photos anymore. But when I do need to edit, I use VSCO! I have a couple of favorite filters that I love (I love the A series and the E series the most)

How I Print My Photos

With my disposable camera pictures, I develop them at Nichol’s Photo Lab (if you’re in SLC). If you’re not, just google photo stores and I’m sure you have a great local option.

For my Kodak Ektar, I develop them at Essential Photo Supply in SLC.

If I ever want to print any photos at home (which I highly suggest!!!), I use this Kodak 4×6 printer.

I hope that answers most of your questions! If I missed anything feel free to ask me below!

Kids Birthday Interviews

Every year on my kid’s birthday, I love to interview them and ask them questions about their current life. I’ll compile the video with some of my favorite clips of them from the past year and they are videos I will cherish forever!

I normally start the interviews when they turn 2 or 3 years old depending on how verbal they are. I started P when she was 2 but waited until G turned 3. It’s totally up to you! But usually, from 3 years old and up, they’re ready to be interviewed and can understand and answer the questions I am asking them.

If you need a tripod to record the videos, I use this one.

I have used my DSLR cameras in the past but find my iPhone does a great job as well. I used to record everything vertically but moving forward I want to start recording more of our videos horizontally. Then I’ll record their interviews horizontally so we can watch it on the TV in the years to come and it will feel more like a “home video” vs. a Reel.

I am no longer sharing my kid’s interviews online so I thought I would compile questions that I love to ask but obviously, make it your own too! Add whatever you want. What do you want to remember about them at this age?

Questions you could ask in the interviews:

  • What’s your name?
  • What’s your full name?
  • How old are you?
  • Do you know when your birthday is?
  • What do you want for your birthday this year?
  • What are you doing for your birthday party this year? Anything?
  • What’s your favorite food?
  • What’s your favorite drink right now?
  • What’s your favorite treat?
  • What’s your favorite color?
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?
  • What friends do you like to hang out with right now?
  • What is your teacher’s name?
  • What is your favorite book to read?
  • If you could go anywhere on a trip right now, where would you go?
  • What’s your favorite song?
  • What do you love to do with mommy and daddy?
  • What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

Like I said, think of anything you want to remember about them in this current stage they are in! Kids grow up so fast and these interviews are always my favorite things to look back on.

Good luck!

Let’s Talk STROLLERS!

Different stroller options for babies

I never thought I’d be that person who is passionate about strollers but here I am… and by the number of messages I get on this topic, I thought this post might be merited.

First off, I hope this post isn’t trying to convince you to get all of these strollers but I have actual use cases for all of them and I am going to explain them below. Do you need all of these strollers? No! Just read below and see what fits your needs best. We currently have five kids under the age of six so we’ve used all of these in various phases of our parenthood.

The Uppababy Vista Stroller

First, let’s start with my personal favorite stroller for the newborn stage. I used the Uppababy Vista Stroller and plan on using it with each newborn I have.

I love this stroller for the newborn stage because it has the bassinet attachment, can clip in the car seat seamlessly (especially if you have the Mesa Car Seat! If you don’t have an Uppababy car seat, you can buy adapters), you can have a chair seat once your baby gains head control (normally after around six months!) and you can even add a second seat + a standing board if you have the Vista. (This is why I personally prefer the Vista over the Cruz).

If you are planning on traveling with this stroller, I highly recommend getting a travel case! I know they seem expensive but they keep your stroller in much better condition if you use a good one. I didn’t and completely regret it! They get trashed when they get put underneath the airplane.. so I highly suggest a good travel case!

I always get asked about the carseat covers we use for their carseats too!

Zoe Stroller (Umbrella)

Zoe Stroller Discount Code

Next up we have the Zoe Stroller! I bought the Zoe Twin+ years ago and it’s been an absolute zero regret purchase and the one we use the most. We use it for every mall run, errand, and trip.

It is a DREAM to travel with and folds up so slim and is soo light. I love that it fits through almost every doorframe too. This is a perfect tranisiton stroller after you use the Vista or when your kids start getting a little older but still can’t walk everywhere at your speed.

Cons of this stroller? You can’t use it with newborns! Your baby needs to be at least six months old since they don’t have head control yet and can’t sit in a regular seat.

You also cannot jog with this stroller given the size of the wheels so if you are really wanting to run with your babies, I strongly suggest you invest in a jogging stroller.

I love this stroller so much that I reached out to them and asked for a Zoe Strollers discount code for you guys!

Click on THIS LINK for $15 off your Zoe Stroller!

I also love using the Stroller Hook on my strollers to hold bags or Stanley Flip Tops etc!

Bob (Jogging)

Next up we have JOGGING STROLLERS! My personal favorites are The Bob Single Stroller and the Bob Dualie Double Jogging Stroller. If you love those morning walks or love to jog and exercise, I highly suggest you look into getting a jogging stroller! You can even clip in an infant car seat so you can use a jogging stroller even if you have a newborn. A similar stroller would be the Thule.

Cons of this kind of a stroller? They’re pretty big so I wouldn’t ever use this to travel with or go on errands with. For traveling and errands, I definitely use my Zoe the most.

Why do I still have two? I bought the Bob Single Stroller on Black Friday when I was pregnant with our daughter and we used it for 2 years before I had our son. Then we upgraded to a Double Jogging Stroller and use it every morning we go on a walk/run together. I was going to sell my single stroller but then my friend suggested I keep it because there might be times I just want to take one kid on a jog while others can’t or are in school, etc. and I’m surprised how I often I do only take one! I’m so glad I kept the single too.

Veer Gear Wagon

Different stroller options for babies

Next up we have the Veer Wagon! This is a wagon we got last summer and I love it! We use it for trick-or-treating, walks around the block, and the beach. If you live close to a neighborhood pool and need to haul a lot of things over, I absolutely love this wagon. Is it necessary? Absolutely not but we really love it.

Baby Must-Haves (Updated!)

Willivia Baby Must Haves

Clicking on any image below will take you directly to shop!

Six years ago, I published my first “Baby Must-Haves” blog post and have so much more to say/add now! Luckily, almost every single thing from that list remains on this list but I have so many more things that I believe are absolute staples for us + our newborns. Here is my list.

  1. Baby Aquaphor – just for everything. Everything.
  2. Ergobaby Omni 360 – carriers are a must with newborns! Babywearing is my favorite part of having little babies. Also love the Wildbird, Solly Baby, and I am going to be trying an Artipoppe one with baby #3. If you want $50 off your Artipoppe, email me!
  3. Gathre Changing Mat – we love having these on hand for diaper changes on the go.
  4. Uppababy Vista Stroller – this stroller has been amazing for us. Get it with your first! We bought this PIGGYBACK RIDE ALONG BOARD to ride on when we had our third and it’s so great.
  5. Muslin Burp Cloths – we go through these like crazy.
  6. Ubbi Diaper Pail – this is the one we use. I’m sure others are great too!
  7. Diaper bag – this is such a beautiful, timeless bag. Definitely on the more expensive side but we love our MZ Wallace backpack as our diaper bag!
  8. Zoe Double Stroller – use THIS LINK for a discount on this stroller. This is for when your baby has a little better head control but it is AMAZING! We love it so much. PERFECT for traveling!
  9. Stroller Fan – having a baby in the summer… this is a must-have! We will also put it in the car if they’re reverse facing still.
  10. Uppababy Mesa Infant Car Seat – this car seat clips right into the Uppababy Vista Stroller.
  11. Oogie Bear Nose Cleaner – this is AMAZING to clean out baby ears. Soo satisfying too.
  12. NoseFridaso satisfying to clean out their noses with this thing
  13. Dockatot – we loooove the Dockatot for the newborn phase. They hardly sell them anymore which is too bad because we absolutely love these
  14. Hatch Rest + Sound Machine – we love these sound machines for our kids rooms.
  15. Baby Bum Brush – a game-changer putting diaper ointment on your baby!
  16. Rosamae Baby Essentials – I absolutely LOVE these diaper changing clutches! I always have one in my purse. Use code OLIVIA10 for a discount.

Pumping Must Haves!

  1. Liquid Gold – I take two of these with each meal to help increase my milk supply!
  2. MomCozy Freezer Milk Bags – what I use to store any extra pumped milk
  3. NUK Simply Natural Bottles – the twins will only drink out of these bottles. The most similar to a nipple in my opinion!
  4. Pumping Bra – I am pumping exclusively with the twins so I put this on every three hours haha
  5. MomCozy Milk/Bottle Warmer – we will use this to warm up any frozen milk we’ve had stored
  6. Medela Hand Pump – so great when you’re on the go. If I don’t use the Medela, I love my Elvies too for hands-free!
  7. Spectra Pump – I bought this pump with the twins and SO WISH I bought this portable one. Worth every extra dime in my opinion!!! You could pump anywhere without plugging it in. Really regret not buying this one. But the Spectra pump is amazing
  8. Reusable Nursing Pads – these are for if you milk comes in and don’t want to leak through your shirt. I love that they’re reusable too!
  9. Nipple Balm – I put this on every single time I pump. Makes it so much more comfortable in my opinion!

Also, I NEED to include the BABY BREZZA! Sometimes if I don’t pump enough milk and we need something quick, we will use the Baby Brezza to whip up some formula and it is INCREDIBLE!!! If your kids are formula-fed, you save so much time not waiting for the water to be the right temperature. This does it all for you! UNREAL.

And that’s all for now! Let me know if you have any specific questions about any items!

Taylor Swift Birthday Party!

Taylor Swift Birthday Party

Penny has been planning her 6th birthday party for MONTHS and wanted a Taylor Swift theme. We hosted her party at The Home Lab in Draper and we had SO MUCH FUN! We actually had her birthday party there last year as well and you just really can’t beat hosting somewhere else besides your house haha!

This year they colored Taylor Swift coloring pages, made homemade lipgloss (they chose the color and everything!), had a tea party with all of Penny’s favorite foods, and then they made friendship bracelets.

10/10 recommend! I will link what we used for the party below!
