THOUGHTS AS OF LATE

Park City Utah

I think it is absolute normal and human of all of us to get into funks from time to time.

There will be days where I feel like I am flying high but also days where I feel like getting out of bed is the absolute worst case scenario.

Park City Utah mountains

Luckily, this weekend was General Conference and the messages I heard truly touched me so deeply and were all exactly what I needed to hear.

Fall Pumpkins

Some favorite quotes from the conference included…

“Life is perfect for none of us, and at times the challenges and difficulties we face may become overwhelming, causing our light to dim. However, with help from our Heavenly Father, coupled with support from others, we can regain that light which will illuminate our own path once again and provide the light others may need.”

-President Thomas S. Monson

Will & Liv

“Love one another; as I have loved you.”2 I’m confident that there is no choice, sin, or mistake that you or anyone else can make that will change His love for you or for them.”

-Elder Rasband

SLC walls

“Even with all of the mistakes, opposition, and learning that accompany our mortal experience, God never loses sight of our eternal potential, even when we do.”

-Carole M. Stephens

Quote on sidewalk

“Our divine nature has nothing to do with our personal accomplishments, the status we achieve, the number of marathons we run, or our popularity and self-esteem. Our divine nature comes from God. It was established in an existence that preceded our birth and will continue on into eternity.”

Sister Rosemary Wixom

Apple crisp

“Sometimes, the truth may just seem too straightforward, too plain, and too simple for us to fully appreciate its great value. So we set aside what we have experienced and know to be true in pursuit of more mysterious or complicated information. Hopefully we will learn that when we chase after shadows, we are pursuing matters that have little substance and value.”

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I’m super grateful for the ability I have to hear General Conference messages twice a year.

Feel free to read more from this session at lds.org.

ALL THINGS FALL

September has come and gone (almost) and I’m just sitting here trying to soak up every second of Fall possible!
If you haven’t been able to tell yet, Fall is hands down my favorite season ever. I love the weather cooling down, the leaves changing, pumpkin flavored everything, the ripest peaches, college football, Halloween decorations… everything seriously just feels right.
Here’s what we’ve been up to the month of September.
WHO WE’VE BEEN CHEERING FOR
Although we’ve been to the Utah games, I dragged Will down to Provo to cheer on my Alma Mater!
BYU was doing so good at the beginning of the season and now they’re struggling a tad bit. But this game against Boise State was INCREDIBLE. Hands down the greatest college football game I’ve ever been to.
And yes this cougar tail had a part to do with it.
WHAT WE’RE DOING IN OUR SPARE TIME
I do puzzles in our spare time…..  big LOL. I seriously love them though. They are a perfect time for me to unplug and do something that doesn’t involve technology.
Will on the other hand does more worthwhile things like writes essays and works on school assignments.
WHAT WE’RE EATING
I’m all about peanut butter banana toast these days.
Will all about Cubby’s steak sandwich.
WHAT WE’RE DOING ON THE WEEKENDS
If you need to find us on the weekend, we are most likely babysitting a family, dogsitting, or watching college football games.
Castine and Buster (the dog) really are two of my bff’s so I’m not mad about it.
WHAT MADE OUR MONTH COMPLETE
Jensen went to his first High School dance with his BFF Kate! She looked so beautiful and Jensen said they had so much fun together.
He knocked on her front door to pick her up for the dance blasting her favorite Frozen song on his phone. She seriously looked (and I’m sure felt) like a true princess.
WHAT WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF
ORANGE PEEL!
This. Just this. Shout out to Ash Kae for introducing it to me.
WHAT’RE  SOME PLANS FOR THIS FALL
Baking everything and anything pumpkin, celebrating our anniversary, babysitting jobs, trying to find our new favorite Netflix show (suggestions?), and obviously trying to find our Halloween costume for this year!
Will and I drove up the canyon to see the leaves on Sunday and were still in our church clothes if you’re wondering why in the world I am wearing booties lol.
Here’s to Fall!
The best season of all.

MY FAVORITE COSTCO FINDS

When my friend Sarah texted me the other day asking what some of my favorite things at Costco were, she had the brilliant idea of me doing a post so that we can hear what YOUR favorite things are too!
Everyone can always benefit from seeing other people’s favorites, right?
Be sure to comment your favorites because we want to hear.

(prices/items may vary by location)
1. 3 Seed Sweet Potato Crackers
 ($7.99)
These are my number ONE favorite thing at Costco right now!! I seriously go through one of these boxes (two bags inside) a WEEK.
I eat the crackers with cheese, hummus, salsa.. anything!
2. Rotisserie Chicken
($11.99)
Yes, this picture is a little scary if you’re not a fan of meat (haha) but this stuff is INCREDIBLE. It is already shredded so you can do so many easy things with it for dinner.
3. Asian Cashew Chopped Salad
($3.99)
This is soo easy for any lunch or dinner. Mix all the ingredients together and you’re done.
4. Basil Pesto
($7.99)
This basil pesto is probably my favorite around. However it goes bad pretty quickly. Make sure if you don’t have a big family to freeze half of it to ensure it’s not all wasted!
5. Curry & Vindaloo
($13.49)
Whip up some rice, warm up some a container of this and you have dinner! Costco also has great Naan bread to pair it with.
6. BelGioioso Mozzarella
($7.49)
Lets be honest, the entire cheese section at Costco is pretty amazing but I’d have to say that this is some of the best mozzarella cheese around. We make Caprese salads with it all the time.
7. Kirkland Asiago Cheese
($9.99  per pound)
This cheese = life. It’s pretty pricey so we only get it now and then but if you ever have a recipe you need Asiago cheese for.. get this!
8. Organic Hope Spicy Avocado Hummus
($5.99)
If you like spicier things, this hummus is for you! Pair it with any veggies, crackers or on a sandwich.
9. Sabra Pineapple Salsa
($5.39)
This salsa lasts a long time and is super sweet. Pair it with those 3 seed crackers!
10. Kirkland Chicken Tenderloins
($16.39)
This chicken is for sure a staple in our home. Will thaws it when he gets home from school and then I put it on the grill and it’s cooked within minutes. They are smaller pieces of chicken so they cook quick and are super moist.
11. Sambazon Acai Berry Juice
($8.89)
If you’re a fan of Acai Bowls go buy this! You can make your own acai bowls at home with some ice cubes, frozen fruit, flax seed etc.
12. Dave’s Killer Bread
($6.69)
If you’re on the hunt for a healthy bread look no further.
13. Mark Avenue Dark Chocolate Covered Coconut Almonds
($9.69)
These are pretty expensive but they last FOREVER. I love munching on these if I want something sweet.
14. Kodiak Cakes
Will and I made some Kodiak cakes the other day for the first time and loved them. They are packed with protein (obviously) and pair great with bananas, peanut butter etc.
15. TruRoots Quinoa
Pricey as well. But lasts forever! I also like putting chicken stock in my quinoa for flavor.
16. Brookside Chocolates
($7.99)
These chocolates are SO GOOD. If you’re a fan of dark chocolate just get in your car right now and drive to Costco.
17. Kirkland Almond Butter
After comparing prices at Trader Joe’s, Target etc. this almond butter at Costco is by far the best value around. The jars are HUGE and last forever. And it’s an almond butter that actually tastes good. Some of them can be so bland!
18. Rana Butternut Squash
($7.79)
So perfect and easy for a fall dinner. I made some last week and just added some olive oil and parmesan cheese and loved it.
19. Rotisserie Chicken
($5)
Fun fact: did you know that Costco actually loses money from their rotisserie chickens but it gets people in the door so they haven’t raised their prices on them?
They are great to shred and save for later too.

20. Quinoa Salad
(~$11)
This quinoa salad is so perfect to keep in your fridge for lunches or a side for dinner.
21. Kirkland Chicken Tortilla Soup
EASIEST dinner. Warm some up, add some avocado and cheese and you’re done.
22. Veggie Patty
I tried going vegetarian for like a day and bought these and loved them! Will even likes them and we still eat them… even though we love meat very much.
23. Somersaults
Okay these were my impulse buy at the register this week and I do NOT like them. If anyone wants them hit me up lol.
Okay now comment your favorites!
Can’t wait to hear them.

THE LOW FROM HIGH

With both my little brother Jensen currently in high school as well as babysitting various kids in high school and junior high recently, this entire age group been on my mind a lot these days.
As a starter, high school was arguably the most difficult time of my entire life.
It’s a time when EVERYONE is trying to figure out who they are, who their true friends are, who they aspire to be one day etc. etc.
Figuring all this stuff out is hard enough. But then you add the dreadful braces, hormones, expectations, puberty, cliques, judgmental peers etc. all in the mix and it’s just a sticky situation all around.
(Insert- I WAS NOT perfect in high school. Nor am I anything close to perfect right now. This is simply me looking back and reflecting + adding my personal thoughts on what I wish I knew while I was in high school. As an adult and seeing these conversations and situations take place, I can’t help but have a little heart breakage goin on for what we’ve all had to endure)
Lately, I overheard various conservations that I just want to cringe at.
I want SO BADLY to sit some of these teenagers down and say…
Sweetie, you CAN’T call someone fat like that.

WHO CARES what you post! Post what you want. Social media has zero rules.

Just let ANYONE in your dang dance group. Being exclusive is just dumb.

As much as you hate to admit it, your parents are probably right. Listen to them.

Being popular is so unimportant I can’t stress it enough.

Why are you limiting how many friends you can have? Have as many friends possible.

Put down your cell phone and go spend quality time with your family outside of that iPhone screen.

If you don’t have plans on a weekend night, it isn’t the end of the world.
I really did forget how hard it is to be around people that bully and judge you everyday within the halls of your own school.
If I get bullied these days, at least it’s probably online so I don’t have to face these sad people face-to-face.
However in high school, someone can bully you one day & the next day you’re going to have to sit next to them in Math class. The fear instilled inside of kids these days is NOT okay.
For heavens sake, my little brother went to stand in the student section during the football game a couple weeks ago and a kid called him a “b****” and told him he couldn’t stand with them in their section.
Really?
Is it really this hard to be nice nowadays?
Due to these recent circumstances I just felt like adding my own two cents on the matter.
One thing that could help would be to change your perspective if you’re in high school or junior high.
Don’t assume that-
It’s the cool thing to “sluff” school
It’s cool to only like the pretty girls or popular guys.
It’s cool to bully kids in front of your peers.
It’s cool to back talk to your parents.
WHEN IN REALITY-
It’s the cool thing to get way good grades and get into a good college. That could determine your overall success in life.
It’s cool to like the people that have a great personality and are fun to be around. Be around people that lift you up.
It’s cool to be nice to everyone and not ridicule anyone else.
It’s cool to respect your parents. They went through high school and survived. You probably need their advice.
If you don’t have plans on a Friday night.. hang with your family!
They’re going to be around a LOT longer than your peers. So might as well strengthen your relationship with them.
Be friends with anyone.
Usually the people you least expect will be impact your life more than anyone else.
Find your way out of drama rather than into it.
Often, do the uncool thing.
Don’t be so affected by other people’s opinions.
YOU are enough.
Don’t let anybody tell you differently.
You will come out on top if you are a nice, sincere, genuine person.

If you are a bully, stop it.

It affects people more than you can realize.

On a lighter note-

Here is a collage of my Dad photobombing our dance pictures.

He loves to just jump in at the last second while my mom is taking our pictures and it CRACKS US UP.

SAYONARA SUMMER

You know Summer is over when you wake up to go on a jog at 6:30am and go outside and it’s FREEZING so you turn around and go crawl back into bed.
Somehow I feel like I blinked and summer ended!

Life has been a whirlwind lately so I haven’t found the time to post some of my favorite pictures from this summer!
Here are a couple highlights-
My dad has a timeshare at a hotel in Park City so we went and spent a lot of time with my family while they were up there for the week.
The great part about Park City is that it feels like you are SO far away from home when in reality it’s only 15 minutes away.
We love it up there.

This picture cracks me up.
I planned a wedding w/ my sister in law in August and it happened to be POURING RAIN the whole day of the wedding.
I put on Will’s rain coat and persuaded Jensen to come help but we seriously had a blast spending all day in the rain.
If there’s a rainy day, it really all depends on how the bride handles it. She was happy and cordial the entire day. And that is all that matters.
A fun activity this summer was Craft Lake City!
Google Fiber sponsored the STEM building and it was SO neat to see all the new products in relation to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Will pretty much just sat and starred at the human brain for 25 minutes.

<<Side note: I’m LOVE with my new Nena and Co. bag>>
I love companies who have a mission that serves a better purpose.
Ali, from Nena, employs women in Guatemala to make these bags in return of a fair wage that they deserve (hence the price of the bags).

Another high of this summer was definitely MOVING!
I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I love everything about moving haha. Crazy, I know.
I love organizing, de-junking, donating things to the DI, decorating the new place etc. It’s all a wild ride and I love it.
(Mat is from LoRustique)

I ate at Cubby’s one too many times this summer.

Of course I found more walls, duh.

One day in August I had a COMPLETE Seinfield day.
It was 100% COMICAL.
For starters, I ran STRAIGHT into the clear glass walls at the Apple Store full speed and my phone went FLYING and the store went dead quiet and everyone was staring at me.
Then 10 more things happened that day that were just so frightening.
I couldn’t help but just laugh it all off.

In August I also planned BRING YOUR KIDS TO WORK DAY!
It was such a blast.
A face painter came, we played minute to win it games and the kids probably consumed 130948 grams of sugaaaaa.
Whoops.

Willie and I both also had birthdays in August!

Mitchy is doing so great too!
He had a rough week hearing about Poppy passing as well as the passing of one his investigators in Peru but he is staying positive!
I still can’t believe he will be with me during the next ski season.
Giddy just thinkin about it.
HERE’S TO THE BEST SEASON EVER!

HELP WITH LOSS

My grandpa’s passing was the first death of someone who was extremely close to me.
And I did NOT handle it well. Like at all.
Not that I was expected to handle it great but for some reason I felt like I COULDN’T get my act together.

HOWEVER
There are a few things that I realized help get me through it all.

ONE.
Good friends & co-workers who truly care about how you’re doing.

TWO.
A good husband who somehow always knows the right thing to say/do.

THREE.
Hefty amounts of ice cream.
Preferably raspberry with some Oreo!

FOUR.
The gospel.
The knowledge and belief I have that I will definitely see my Poppy again.

FIVE.
My immediate family as well as Will’s fam.

SIX.
The lessons I learned from the entire experience.
At the funeral, Elder Zwick from the Quorum of the Seventy spoke about the concept of life and how we
“Live to Die and we Die to Live”
It’s something that seriously resonated in me!
What an interesting concept.
It reminded me to truly try to live a better life not only to make this life a good one but to especially make the next life a good one.

I feel like I’m falling a little short in living life to my fullest potential so it was a really great reminder for me.
I need to enjoy the little moments not just the monumental ones.
I need to be a better friend always.
I need to not be so sensitive and let the little things get me so down.
I need to live IN each moment better.

Here’s to new beginnings.

LABOR DAY’IN IT

This Labor Day was definitely one for the books!
The weekend started out at the Utah football game against Michigan up at Rice Eccles Stadium. There’s something about college football that makes me jump inside.
I love everything about it! The game, the food, the lights, the food, the fans, the food.
On Friday, I worked from all day because Kaskade came to play in Provo! For free!
Let me just say it was INSANE to see so many people show up in Provo for that concert.
Yes, Provo Utah. Kaskade concert. In Provo, Utah.
My boss took me to meet him before the concert which was so fun.
He sure was a cool dude.
After work on Friday, Will and I drove up the canyon to stay the night at Hotel Park City.
We have been “dog sitting” our neighbors dogs while they were on vacation during the summer and in exchange they gave us a night for free up at their timeshare!
Hotel Park City really is so dang nice.

I woke up early and went on a run up to Deer Valley and it really was the quickest 6 mile run I’ve ever done.
I was so distracted by how pretty everything was that the run was over before I even knew it.
Those are my kind of runs!

We had breakfast at Atticus on Main Street on Saturday morning.
I had the Honey Bee Protein bowl and it was delicious. It had bananas, soy milk, peanut butter, granola and honey. Will had an egg breakfast bagel and it was not so delicious.
So if you go, be sure to stick to the smoothies!

All weekend long Will’s mom had a booth up at Swiss Days.
She does it every year and is such an incredible artist/crafter.
Her gift show is coming up quick in Holladay so make sure you come!
First weekend in October at Holladay City Hall.

After Swiss Days we drove up to Bear Lake and spent Saturday & Sunday with my family. It has gotten so much colder up there so boating was not an option which I was super bummed about.
But we did have Raspberry shakes, went on walks, played games the backyard, watched movies and went to church.
Eliza & Josh are in Cabo all week so we had Luella with us 24/7!
To say that I’m obsessed with her would be a complete understatement.
A fun part about living in Utah is that there’s always a new mountain to go hike or a new lake to go find!
We did Cecret Lake at Alta the morning of Labor Day and it was breathtaking.
Does anyone have a hike they LOVE in Utah?
I’m looking to do one on Saturday!

It’s so weird to see one of my favorite ski resorts without any of the snow.
The colder weather does get me SUPER excited for ski season though.
And we ended Labor Day with SOCCER GOLF! (did you see it on my snapchat? I need to calm down on snapchat I know I know)
At Mulligan’s in South Jordan you can literally play golf with soccer balls. I am awful at any sport that involves at ball but I had SO much fun. If you live near South Jordan you gotta try it.
Hope everyone else had a good Labor Day too!

[INSERT NAME OF NEW PLACE]

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a month since we’ve been in our new place!
Moving out of the cottage was definitely bittersweet but we are loving having a bigger space but guess what… the spiders have followed us!!
Hahaha.
Dead serious.
Bigger spiders than before too.
But we are chillin.

And if you can’t tell by the post name–
no name yet!
Still thinkin hard about that one..

Obviously things are still trying to find their exact place around here but I took a couple quick pics the other day when I was home and thought I’d share.

My favorite part of our new place has to be the kitchen!
We finally have a dish washer that actually works AND we have enough space that we don’t have to use it as storage! Woot woot.

FINE I WILL

Can you tell that IKEA has been our BFF lately?
Anyways,
We are so excited to be here and are loving this new chapter in our lives.
Since my grandpa passed 2 weeks ago, I’ve been looking through his old photo journals often and have loved seeing each place he lived in throughout his lifetime.
Whether it be his first home in Ogden, his house in San Francisco where my mom lived, or his various homes in Utah- he has taken pictures of the inside & outside of all of them and I LOVED seeing them!
It’s great to see where my mom was raised, what the style was like etc.
I can’t wait to reflect back on these pictures one day and probably be like YUCK! My taste was horrid! Haha.
Until then, I sure am enjoying this lil place.

SONGS FOR SEPTEMBER

With September only 3 days away, I thought I’d share with you my favorite songs that I can’t stop listening to right now!
It’s hard to believe that Fall is RIGHT around the corner.
My absolute favorite time of year woot woot.
It’s going to take everything in me not to hang up my Halloween decor on September first…
I mean how early is too early honestly??
Oh and also, one of my all-time favorite singers released a new album on iTunes yesterday and it’s probably the best thing ever!
He is the voice behind my wedding video! I just love him.
He opened for a concert I went to in 2011 and I liked him way better than the singer I actually paid to go listen to.
Don’t you love when that happens?
Hope you enjoy!

COMMIT

Yesterday morning I went on a walk and felt some frustration towards myself regarding commitments I haven’t kept lately.
Normally on Sunday nights, I write down a list of goals in my phone or on a pad of paper that I want to achieve that next week.
These goals can range from who I want to call and catch up with.. to simply reading an Ensign talk.. to financial goals.. to significantly lowering the time I spend online.
I always feel good about the goals I set on Sunday nights but when I look back on the week I suddenly realize I hardly committed to achieving any of them.
While thinking on my walk I brainstormed different ways I can actually commit to these goals.
From now on I am now going to…
1. Tell Will about my goals so that he can hold me accountable to them
2. Write my goals on a piece of paper and take it with me in my bag everywhere I go so I can reflect on them more often
and
3. Do a mid-week check in on Wednesday nights to see how I’ve done so far.
Let’s see how this goes!
How do you commit to goals that you’ve set?

MOVING PAINS

On August 1st, we officially left our Cottage keys underneath our landlords mat and walked away.
I will admit I was tearful leaving the first place we lived in as newlyweds.
Although the Cottage was tiny, filled to the brim with spiders, had no washer + dryer, no dishwasher, and wasn’t the nicest facility.. it was a place that will always be special to my heart.
There were many memories there I’ll cherish forever.
Whether it be cooking together, spending the Christmas season decorating our own fresh tree together, or binge watching Netflix together on rainy days… I will always love that cozy place.
Last night in our first place
We moved into a different place here in SLC that we are sooo excited about. It wasn’t completely finished until last Saturday so you betcha you bunked it up with my parents for a week. HA!
I never thought I’d move back in with my ‘rents so that was definitely quite the adventure..
But on Saturday I seriously LOVED going and grabbing a big box of bagels and moving in lots of boxes, unpacking, dejunking, organizing, decorating, and moving in general!! Call me crazy.
It’s therapeutic for me..
I will probably regret saying that one day when I move with kids.
Buh-bye cottage!
We miss ya… but not your spiders the size of my fist lol.

THE LAKE, GRACE, AND CAKE

Here are some of my highlights from JULY—
(better late than never, right?)

Before heading up to Bear Lake for the 4th of July weekend I sent Mitch Man a package! He comes home from his mission July 26th of next year so I sent him a little package to celebrate one year down + one year to go!
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since he left but I also can’t wait until I get to squeeze his cheeks again.
Right now he is serving high up in the canyons of Peru.
So dang pretty!

I had to work until midnight on the 3rd of July and then had to be AT work at 7 am on the 4th for a couple hours (to be in the Provo parade… no comment) so Will and I loved going up to the lake right after the parade to relax for a day.
I know I’ve said it before.. but Bear Lake is hands down my favorite place on this earth.
There’s nothing like going up there and having scarce phone service, playing games with my cousins, and eating lots of those famous Bear Lake raspberries.
Jensen’s birthday is also on the 4th of July! I make him a little coconut flag cake every year. I am still in denial “Baby” J is 15.
Him behind the wheel with his permit?? Ahhh. Nope.

I loved on Sunday in BL when my Poppy taught Will how to drive his tractor.
That thing is his prized possession!
A lot of swearing was involved from my German grandpa while teaching Will hahaha but we were laughing so hard and had a blast cruisin around.

July can’t pass without knowing you participated in Free Slurpee Day, right?!
(Will participated 3 times.. so.. there’s that)

Another huge highlight of July was when Will’s sweet little sis Grace returned home from her mission in Canada!
She was serving up in Nova Scotia so we loved giving her a WARM welcome home.
That poor girl had to shovel her entire car out of massive snow piles too many times to count.

I can’t quite say it was a highlight…
and not a lowlight because I am so happy for them..
SO a mediumlight of July was saying bye to one of my absolute best friends, Sarah.
Her husband Pete was accepted into Medical School in Tennessee so they packed their bags for good and headed out West!

We threw them a “DUNN WITH UTAH” BBQ before they left town and loved all being together on their last night in Utah.

Sarah and I were supposed to be college roommates at BYU.
Then at the last second she decided to go the U of U but we still stayed good friends nonetheless.
Everything worked out exactly the way it should have and I’m so thrilled we have stayed so close after all these years.
It was so so fun to have a best friend to work with too! We started working together a couple months ago and made a dang good team.

And alas one of the weddings we went to was a beautiful farmhouse wedding up at This is The Place in SLC!
That farmhouse is where Will asked me to Senior Prom.
The wedding had the most darling ferris wheel too!

If there’s anything I’ve learned in the month of July it’s that life sure is a wild ride! A lot of unexpected things have come up lately but I sure am glad I have this one by my side through it all.
